At St John’s we have created a curriculum which helps all children, regardless of their ability, background or needs, to reach their full potential. To do this we work closely as a team to create an interesting and engaging curriculum for the children in our care.

We keep up to date with all new curriculum advice and recommendations to ensure that we prepare our children for secondary education and equip them with a wide range of life skills.

We follow a creative approach to learning and teach through carefully chosen topics which allow us to link different subject areas more closely, helping children apply the skills they learn more easily to everyday life.

Wherever possible we use an investigative and practical approach to learning, making sure that purpose and enjoyment are key elements of our lessons.

To accommodate our mixed year classes our creative curriculum plan follows a two year cycle ( see Curriculum Map below) to make sure that all children receive equal curriculum entitlement.

Teachers make sure that children working at all levels within their classes are provided with appropriate challenges and support.

Regular homework is linked to the topics children are learning about each term. Our homework policy is available on our website.
