Liturgical Year

Liturgical Year at St. John's School

At St. John's, the Liturgical Year is a key part of our Catholic identity. Throughout the school year, students are introduced to and participate in the changes and celebrations related to the Church’s Liturgical Calendar. These events are reflected in our sacred space in the assembly hall as well as in each classroom's personal sacred space. Students are guided in recognising the liturgical changes through the seasonal colours of our cloths and displays, which align with the Liturgical Year.

The liturgical colours include Green, White, Gold, Red, and Purple.

Forms of Worship

Worship at St. John's takes many forms, providing a rich and varied spiritual experience for our students. These include:

  • Class and whole school assemblies
  • Prayer services
  • Whole school and class Masses
  • Hymn practice
  • Daily prayers

We are committed to including students in all aspects of worship. The children take an active role by leading prayers and prayer services, and many are involved in the preparation and delivery of other collective worship activities.

The Year 6 students who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in June 2025 will take on the role of Catholic Ambassadors. These students will lead whole school assemblies and actively encourage their peers to pray for others using the prayer box in the school hall. They also help adapt our collective worship by integrating music, drama, prayer, and visual cues to make the assemblies more engaging and meaningful.

At St. John's, we are deeply proud of our Catholic faith, and this is visible throughout our learning environment, in our corridors, classrooms, and assembly hall.

Special Worship Events

In addition to our regular acts of worship, special events are arranged throughout the school year. These include Carol Services, celebration Masses (including Holy Days of Obligation), Stations of the Cross, Reconciliation services, and other traditional devotions that offer students opportunities to deepen their faith.
