Early Years Curriculum Statement
At St. John’s, our Early Years Curriculum is centred around themes that provide engaging and inspiring opportunities designed to spark curiosity and engagement.
We prioritise the development of reading, writing and maths through rigorous systematic teaching carefully balanced with plenty of playful opportunities to practice these skills within all curriculum areas. Formal learning is enhanced by rich, practical exploration both indoors and out.
Our intention is to develop the whole child through a stimulating curriculum that is relevant and responsive to each unique child and cohort.
This flexibility works within a strict framework that combines a deep understanding of child development coupled with high expectations for end of year attainment.
Through our Early Years Curriculum we also develop the following essential Characteristics of Effective Learning:
• Playing and exploring
• Active learning
• Creating and thinking critically
